Australian Boulder Opal / One of One
The stone sets the form.
An individual opal.
The outline, proportions, and shifting color of each stone guide the design. Every setting begins with what makes that opal its own.
A form carved in wax.
At my bench, I build and carve the setting in wax, refining its line, weight, and balance by hand. The form takes shape around the individual stone.
A piece of its own.
Through lost-wax casting, the carving becomes solid gold. Stone setting and polishing complete the piece, with every stage carried out in Los Angeles.
Australian Boulder Opal
Color,
held by earth.
Long before it became an adornment, its story belonged to the earth. Australian boulder opal carries a geological history spanning millions of years, its seams of color still held within the ironstone where they formed.
Turn the stone and its color shifts. Blue gathers into green; a quiet surface suddenly catches fire. From the landscapes of Queensland to the way it holds light, there is more to this stone than a first glance reveals.
Care & Keeping
Made to be worn.
Carried with care.
Opal and finely worked gold benefit from considered handling. A few simple habits will help preserve the stone, its setting, and the character of the finished piece over time.
Everyday Wear
Wear the piece thoughtfully and protect the opal from direct impact, abrasion, and pressure. Remove it before exercise, heavy work, gardening, or any activity where the stone could be struck against a hard surface.
Cleaning the Opal
Gently wipe the stone and gold with a clean, soft cloth. If needed, use a cloth lightly dampened with lukewarm water and dry the piece immediately. Avoid soaking, steam cleaners, ultrasonic cleaners, harsh solutions, and commercial jewelry dips.
Water & Personal Products
Remove the piece before bathing, swimming, or entering a hot tub. Apply perfume, lotion, hairspray, and other personal products before putting on the jewelry so residue does not collect around the opal or its setting.
Storage & Long-Term Care
Store the piece separately in a soft pouch or lined compartment, away from harder gemstones and metal edges. Avoid prolonged heat and sudden temperature changes. If the stone or setting ever feels loose, discontinue wear until the piece can be inspected.
